Mental Health Community Care

A whole new concept of caring for the mentally ill is being developed in East Yorkshire, it involves the provision of services at ‘grass roots’ level rather than from a large hospital miles away from the main centres of population. The policy is to provide a service in the community for the community. Communities are divided into modules each having a `population of 40,000 to 50,000 and each module will be served by a Community Mental Health Team who will be responsible for meeting the Mental Health needs within the module that they serve. Activities include assessment and treatment of individual problems, family therapy, group therapy and general support as well as medical treatment. Also modern psychotherapeutic therapies are used including art, craft and dramatherapy.
