The 6 month attachment in general paediatrics is based at the Hull Royal Infirmary with the possibility of exposure to some of the common problems of the newborn at the Hull Maternity Hospital and Community Paediatrics at the Children’s Centre (Walker Street) and the various community child health clinics. The Hull Royal Infirmary provides general paediatric experience based on 2 medical paediatric wards, a surgical paediatric ward and the paediatric area of the accident and emergency department. The department provides comprehensive care of children with coverage of many important paediatric sub specialities and allied surgical specialities and in general paediatric surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ENT, neurosurgery and some plastic surgery. There should be ample opportunity to gain experience in the assessment and management of children with a wide range of conditions within both inpatient and outpatient settings.
The department runs a 2 week induction programme followed by weekly training and educational events including case presentations and clinical reviews, specific SHO bleep free teaching, Radiology sessions, audit and twice monthly departmental CME sessions.
The Trust runs a comprehensive appraisal and assessment scheme and you will be allocated an Education Supervisor from one of the Consultants.
You will be encouraged to prepare for and sit the Diploma in Child Health examination.
