Post: Senior House Officer in A & E at HRI. 

Duration : 6 months

The post is entirely at the Hull Royal Infirmary. The Department is a large department, with a total annual attendance of approximately 85,000 patients. The Department is actively involved in research and continuing education. A development of an Academic Department of the postgraduate medical school attached to the University of Hull has been established.

The Work of the Department - 

Senior Cover - There is a minimum of a Staff Grade Doctor in the Department from 0800 - 2400 hours. A Registrar SpR is also on site overnight.

Weekend Cover - There is a Senior Doctor (Staff Grade) in the department 2400 hours.

Midnight - A Resident Specialist Registrar is available and can attend within 10 minutes, a Consultant is always available.

Holidays are as per Rota - weeks - which include bank holidays which are worked as normal. The rota work covers a 12 week cycle. 

Education -There is a Departmental teaching session every Wednesday afternoon for 2 3/4 hours (including Audit). Attendance is compulsory, forms part of the contracted hours.

Other Information - The Accident and Emergency Department, Hull Royal Infirmary, is an extremely busy Department, covering a total population of 500,000 and a larger population for major trauma. The Department processes a wide range of clinical material from major disasters and multiple injuries to minor surgical or medical problems.
