Aims:

  1. To develop basic research skills, and apply  these to a specific project in general practice
  2. To undertake a higher degree (M.Sc. by research)
  3. To understand the research process
  4. Define a research question, and write a research proposal
  5. Effectively search the literature
  6. Design and carry out a small research project and write up as a paper
    (ideally for publication)
  7. Gain additional knowledge in the field of the study
  8. Acquire a critical attitude to the research literature
  9. Appreciate the costs of research
  10. Value research done in primary care

Service Commitments:
Half time in general practice for 6 months

Educational Methods:

  1. Taught courses in research methods (at Hull University)
  2. Research Supervision of project

Special Features:

  1. Leading to higher degree
  2. Flexible time allocation, and use of own time in second 6 months

Assessment:
Regular meetings with supervisor: assessed modules in M.Sc.
