Aims:

To provide training in Family Planning and
Reproductive Health Care, to enable the
Registrar to be a "specialist generalist"
in family planning & reproductive health
care and to give an overview of
gynaecology and obstetrics.

The Registrars undertaking the post.

In the Hull/East Yorkshire Education Training Scheme in General Practice.

Service Commitments:

See attached Timetable. Eventually, in the Community Gynaecology part of the post, working alongside trainers in general family planning, specialist family planning GUM and Community Gynaecology, gradually taking on responsibility for patients in the clinic, commensurate with ability.

Educational Methods:

Current specialist journals and papers; study days; one to one clinical teaching. Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care – DFFP, LoC IUT & LoC Sdl (Diploma Family Planning, Certificates of Intrauterine Contraception and Sub Dermal Implants). Courses/Clinical Teaching.

Special Features:

Modular rotation, through Obstetric & Gynaecology subspecialties pitched at relevance for a primary care practitioner. Achievement of DFFP, LoC IUT, LoC Sdl (as before) during the post. Basic training in Genito-urinary Medicine.

Assessment:

One-to-one supervision by GP & Speciality trainers.

Evaluation:

Discussion between GP SpR with educational supervisor and formal evaluation meeting with GP VTS Course Organiser.

Further Comments:

Not suitable for entry onto the Obstetrics List.

Pitched at the needs of training a future GP/first level patient carer, not at service provision of secondary patient care.

Includes involvement’s in referral into Termination of Pregnancy Service.

Sexual and Reproductive Health care in Hull & East Yorkshire is delivered in a ‘hub & spoke’ model, centred in a multi-agency city centre site for integrated delivery of sexual health care, involving community gynaecology, family planning, genito-urinary medicine (sexual health medicine) social services, counsellors and the voluntary sector. Training within this department will demonstrate a holistic approach to sexual health care.
