This is a friendly mixed inner city/rural, dispensing practice with 6,500
patients. Sutton has a long history as a Doctor's Surgery and was previously a
police station in the 1830's. It was extensively modernised in 1981 to purpose
built standards and extended in 1996 and again in 1999. We are a part dispensing
practice for the patients who live in Wawne.
Our Practice Manager, Mrs Young, heads a team of Practice Nurses, Secretary,
Receptionists and Filing Clerks. Attached staff include District Nurses and
Health Visitors. The practice has it's own full-time Community Psychiatric
Nurses. We also have in house occupational therapy and dietician service.
All the Doctors have consulting rooms with separate examination rooms. There are two fully equipped Nurse treatment rooms and a Health Visitors' room. The practice is fully computerised and the Doctors use computers in the consulting rooms for record-keeping and prescribing. The practice is at the forefront of information technology and has a VAMP Vision system, which is linked to the
Health Authority for registration and items of service. We are also linked with the local hospital for pathology. The practice uses a fully computerised appointment system with separate antenatal, family planning and postnatal clinics. We run minor surgery clinics, including nitrogen cryotherapy and Dr Mitchell
and Dr Marshall run a pain/acupuncture service. Our Nurses are responsible for running routine health checks, travel clinics, well-person clinics, asthma and diabetic clinics.
There is a minor surgical room with interpretative ECG, peak flow meters, sound booth with audiometer and tympanometer and a
full spirometry service. A full range of diagnostic facilities are available at the local hospitals.
We have In-House Consultants providing services at the Sutton Surgery in Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology (including vasectomy clinics),
ENT and Neurology and the Registrar is encouraged to sit in on these clinics.
The GP Registrar has his/her own consulting room with adequate examination room. A wide variety of teaching methods are in use, including the use of the internet and world wide web. No prior knowledge of computers is necessary as full training is available within the practice.
Dr Jenni Holmquist is the Trainer in the practice. She is also a Family Planning Trainer.
